The Board of Directors of the Venango County Housing Authority are seeking to assist in eradicating deteriorating housing stock in Venango County. A new program is being launched to begin in 2011 to be known as Venango Citizens Helping Improve Properties (VenCHIP). The new initiative will start small and is expected to grow exponentially as volunteerism and available funding increases. This program does not expect to use taxpayer monies to operate. It's an "all volunteer" program of people helping people.
The purpose of the program is to organize volunteers willing to provide their time and expertise to refurbish exteriors of homes for owners who are unable to conduct the renovation work themselves. We anticipate donations from area suppliers for materials and tools necessary to conduct the work. Initially, it is expected work sites will require repainting and minor landscaping. Invoking the "one-step-at-a-time" theory, we expect to have assisted more than twenty Venango County homeowners by 2017.
Criterion for persons receiving residential rehabilitation services will be published sometime in November of 2010 on this website.
